Chrysalidocarpus Lutescens or Areca Palm

The Areca Palm or Butterfly Palm is a relatively easy-care indoor house plant known by many names – Areca Lutescens, Chrysalidocarpus Lutescens, Dypsis Lutescens, Butterfly Palm, Yellow Palm, Golden Cane, and of course Areca Palm.
Areca Palm grows 6–12 m (20–39 ft) in height. Multiple stems emerge from the base. The leaves are arched, 2–3 m (6 ft 7 in–9 ft 10 in) long, and pinnate, with 40-60 pairs of leaflets. It bears panicles of yellow flowers in summer. Offsets can be cut off when mature enough, as a propagation method.

Areca Palm light requirements mean that it will accept a spot that doesn’t receive any sunlight at all during the day and it will accept direct sun, however, it doesn’t like excessive amounts of either. In Spring, Summer, and Autumn / Fall, this palm has a thirst which means you need to be prepared to water heavily and often during the height of Summer. If you have chosen the ideal spot mentioned in the “light” section above then you could be watering twice a week.

Average warmth is required for growth so try to provide temperatures between 15°C – 25°C / 59 °F – 70°F. Take care not to allow it to get any colder than 10°C / 50°F to keep your plant healthy.
